A venture-backed company building autonomous robotic platforms for harsh, real-world environments is hiring an Electrical Systems Engineer to own system-level electrical architecture across a complex, multi-subsystem vehicle. This role sits at the intersection of power, controls, sensing, and communications, with direct impact on reliability, scalability, and transition from prototype to production.

BENEFITS

Competitive Salary, Meaningful Equity, Full-package.

DESCRIPTION

Role Description

We are hiring an Electrical Systems Engineer to own the platform-level electrical architecture for an autonomous robotic system operating in demanding field conditions. You will take an evolving prototype and drive it toward production readiness by defining end-to-end electrical topology, power and signal distribution, and the component strategy that underpins reliability, serviceability, and scale.

This is a hands-on systems role. You will run trade studies, set interface standards, and validate decisions through bench work and field testing in close partnership with mechanical, software, and operations teams.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own platform-wide electrical architecture across propulsion, energy storage, power distribution, controls, sensing, and communications.
  • Define topologies, interfaces, grounding, shielding, and segmentation strategies for safety and robustness.
  • Produce system block diagrams, power trees, and system schematics that guide PCB, harness, and enclosure work.
  • Build and maintain power budgets, current paths, and transient and worst-case loading assumptions.
  • Set requirements for harnessing, connectors, protection, and power conversion, aligned to environmental exposure and maintainability.
  • Lead component selection across power electronics, converters, controllers, sensors, connectors, cabling, and comms interfaces.
  • Qualify vendors and parts against performance, reliability, environmental ratings, lead time, cost, and lifecycle risk.
  • Support validation via analysis, bench testing, and structured field trials, then iterate based on observed failure modes.
  • Partner with software and mechanical teams to ensure the architecture is manufacturable, testable, and serviceable.
  • Support compliance work related to electrical safety and EMC through architecture choices, protection schemes, and documentation.

Skills and Experience

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • 2 to 5 years in system-level electrical design for robotics, vehicles, aerospace, marine, or similar complex electromechanical systems.
  • Strong fundamentals in power distribution, protection, grounding, shielding, and control system interfaces.
  • Experience defining system architectures spanning power, signal, and communications buses.
  • Demonstrated component selection judgment for high-reliability applications, including connectors, cabling, sensors, converters, and power electronics.
  • Familiarity with electrical safety practices and environmental constraints for mobile or fielded systems.
  • Experience with schematic capture and system diagramming tools, plus harness definition workflows.
  • Proven ability to move from prototype ambiguity to repeatable, production-oriented designs.
  • Comfortable making explicit trade-offs across reliability, cost, schedule, and performance.

Bonus points. Experience with harsh-environment autonomous platforms. Hybrid power, battery systems, or BMS integration. Reliability methods like derating, FMEA or DFMEA, and MTBF estimation.

Why Join

You will own a critical layer of the system that determines field reliability and production scalability. The role has clear scope, direct hardware accountability, and tight feedback loops from testing to design iteration. You will work closely with a small, execution-driven team building a complex platform that must perform outside controlled environments.

ITAR Compliance

This role may involve access to export-controlled technical data. Candidates must be eligible to comply with applicable US export control regulations.
